Give Your Patio The “Green” Treatment

Your outdoor space is your sanctuary, and your design should reflect and respect your love and appreciation of the natural world beyond your walls. Opting for patio furniture that is eco-friendly is a sound investment in your home and the environment.

Forget the bandwagon because the “green” movement is here to stay. “Sustainable” is more than a media buzzword, it's a way of life, and these furniture options will meet and exceed your environmentally conscious expectations.

What To Look For

When you're shopping around for eco-friendly furniture, do your homework. The best eco-friendly outdoor materials are:

  • Hard-wearing, durable woods like western red cedar, northern white cedar, and teak, that are FSC certified and are harvested from sustainably managed forests.
  • Recycled plastic or high density polyethylene (HDPE). Recycled plastic furniture is durable, water resistant, low maintenance, and, unlike wood, won't rot, splinter or crack. It also doesn't require staining, sealing or painting, and is fundamentally resistant to whatever mother nature can throw at it.
  • Stainless steel (particularly if it contains a higher percentage of recycled content).

At Palm Casual, we offer a selection of eco-friendly patio furniture options for you to choose from:

Pipe

PVC or pipe furniture is made from polyvinyl chloride, a type of recycled plastic that is specially treated before it's upcycled into patio furniture. PVC is a highly durable material, capable of withstanding even the most extreme weather conditions. Every product also features impact modifiers which increase the overall strength of the material, and reduce the likelihood of chipping on impact if its moved of struck, and ultraviolet light inhibitors which prevent fading or discolouration.

Poly Lumber

The newest green innovation in patio furniture, poly lumber patio pieces are made from 97% post consumer material, with recycled milk jugs the most common product used. Though it may share physical characteristics with natural wood, unlike its predecessor, poly lumber furniture usually comes with a lifetime warranty against cracking, splintering, chipping, peeling, rotting and pest infestation.

Wicker

Traditional wicker furniture is made from rattan cane and reed, both of which are processed from the vine. Originally, the rattan vine would be used to make the framework itself, as the vines have been known to grow up to 3 inches wide. Our resin wicker patio furniture is made from synthetic fibers that are wrapped or woven onto a metal frame. They look like traditional rattan furniture, but the finish does not peel or flake over time. With resin wicker, you get all-weather furniture that can stand the test of time.
