Maintaining Your Fire Pit – How It’s Done

Fire pits create the perfect outdoor area ambience by providing an awesome gathering place for family and friends on a breezy evening. However, you must take great care of your fire pit to get it to perform efficiently all the time. Here are some simple and great maintenance tips that you can follow to ensure that your fire pit is kept safe and working efficiently for the years to come.

REGULAR CLEANING
It is a must to clean your fire pit regularly – and this is not just to maintain its appearance, but this is also to prevent potential fires from happening. The simplest way to clean your fire pit is with a broom. Just sweep the inside area with an angled broom, but if you do not have one, then a standard broom will work just fine. When sweeping your fire pit, make sure that you do it in one direction to be able to remove the ash, dust, or debris that might have been accumulated over time.

SEALED STONES
If your fire pit is built with the use of decorative concrete stones, then make sure to seal the stones periodically to keep your fire pit working in perfect order. Even though paver stones are durable, they can still wear and erode because of constant exposure to harsh weather conditions. To protect and seal those paver stones, you should apply a thin layer of stone or concrete sealant. Be sure to choose a sealant that can withstand exposure to high temperatures and that is can be used outdoors.

COVERED FIRE PIT
When your fire pit is not in use, make sure that you keep it covered to protect it from the elements and also to reduce the amount of cleaning it would require when not covered. You can buy a water-resistant vinyl tarp to cover your fire pit and you can also use stones and other heavy objects to secure the tarp.

EXTINGUISH THE FIRE
After using your fire pit, make sure that you put out the fire completely. You might think that there is no risk of fire and the flames are contained well within the fire pit, but you should still extinguish the fire in order to prevent wearing of the fire pit. By doing so, you are helping your fire pit to have a prolonged life.
